Garden helpers

The boys have been a big help with the garden this year.  I think it’s partly because they’re just older, but also partly because they are excited about the pumpkins and popcorn they are growing in their own section.

They’re both always keen to wield the hose, and Pea is ceaselessly enthusiastic about picking 42 zillion maple helicopters out from between the plants.

The garden is looking more and more full each day.  Sadly, the bok choi started bolting very early, but I hear the buds are tasty, so we’ll stir fry some up this weekend and see.  The purple radishes are my current favorite.  The boys haven’t quite decided if they are too spicy or not – they’ll nibble them some days and others they won’t, but they love to pull them out of the ground.  I’ll admit it is very satisfying to give a good yank and pull up a gorgeous purple radish.

So the neighbor kids were all over (as usual), and decided they wanted to dig in the garden. Fine, it was empty. Then nothing doing but htey had to have seeds, and all i had was pumpkin and spaghetti squash…so we now have 413 gazillion pumpkins on the way. Somebody better buy this house. Soon.
