Fall Festivities

We enjoyed a weekend visiting Kyle’s family in northern Wisconsin last weekend, which included pumpkin carving.  Pea was literally gagging as he tried to clean out his pumpkin and I admit that I laughed out loud as Kyle whisked him out of the room to clean off his hands and stop the retching.  As Grandpa Bugs wisely said, “If he pukes in the pumpkin, I’m not reaching in there to clean it out!”

A pumpkin farm visit, some trick-or-treating at grandparents’ and great-grandma’s homes, bowling, and shining deer were also on the itinerary.  The boys came home tired.

With their new bags of loot, the boys held a parade in the driveway.  Circling around and around, they’d throw candy to invisible spectators as they yelled, “Happy Halloween!”.  Then they’d dismount from their “floats” to collect the candy and start again.  This kept them busy for hours.

This afternoon Pea and I watched Tea march in his school’s Halloween parade.  The boys have been so excited for tonight, they’ve been playing “trick-or-treat” with the same 2 pieces of candy for the last week.  I am also excited for tonight – I will be “inspecting” the chocolate once the boys are asleep.  It’s sometimes hard to be such a responsible parent, but I signed up for the job, so I shouldn’t complain!
