Kings Mountain

March 27, 2016

Our favorite day exploring the Carolinas with cousins, Nana, and Granddad during spring break was a trip to the National Military Park at Kings Mountain in South Carolina.

The area was absolutely beautiful, with redbud trees and small flowers blooming in the mountains, trees just barely starting to bud, and small streams meandering through the peaceful area.  It was hard to imagine the terrible battle that was fought there during the Revolutionary War.  We heard one rifle shot by a demonstrator, and it rang out so loudly.  Two thousand guns at once must have been deafening in so still a place.

We walked the battleground trail that circled the mountain and the kids all completed activity packets that allowed them to take oaths as Junior Rangers and promise to help protect our National Parks.

I would love to spend more time in the area camping and hiking in the future.
